Vertical Fitness & Vertical Joy are proud finalists at the Gainsborough Business Awards in the customer services category. We certainly would never have even dreamed of entering any award this year since we technically only opened two months ago! However, who are we to argue with our clients boldly putting us forward for an award that quite frankly made us immensely proud to be shortlisted for.
We sought feedback when establishing the timetable to make sure it was what our client base wanted and so far it looks like we got it bang on! Sarah lives and breaths pole and is passionate about how it changed her life, giving her greater self-esteem, confidence and energy. She teaches it as though she is trying to pass on a transformational gift from one pole addict to another, and that creates loyal, happy and special clients that become friends and soon enough are sucked into the pole family/community. That enthusiasm is reinforced by her passionate team, the strong and slinky Zoe, the supportive and smiley Heather, the reassuring and friendly Vikki, and the attentive and knowledgeable Caroline. As a team they exude energy and although these days I am shamelessly bias it is not hard to see why their classes are going from strength to strength – they are quite brilliant.
As for myself, I was touched by the nomination and I have delivered fitness classes for years now with one clear goal: To help people get fitter and surprise themselves with what they can accomplish. Vertical Fitness is the perfect venue for me to do that from as I have tons of space, modern equipment, and a wonderfully loyal client base. Exercise for me is a necessity as martial arts is very much at the core of who I am. When I first got my black belt 10 years ago I had changed from a nervous, wimpy and relatively unfit bullied teenager into a strong, quick, and disciplined martial artist. I have since taught numerous people how to overcome obstacles in their life, improve their fitness levels in a short space of time and hold themselves with greater confidence and belief in their own ability.
You cannot become finalists for a customer service award without fantastic clients and we have those in buckets. We will be up against Marks and Spencer and Emmalooos tomorrow evening which is stiff competition – I know both businesses well and each would be deserving of the award. But whatever the outcome on the evening I would like to say on behalf of the whole Vertical Fitness and Vertical Joy team that we are very grateful for your kind nominations and our customer service will grow and grow to suit your needs and expectations.
In my time as a fitness instructor I have seen lots of people change their lives – and yes I am there to shout at them and occasionally praise them – but they do it themselves. It is exactly the same in pole dancing classes when clients beat themselves up because they cannot get a move only to practice it relentlessly and bring the roof down celebrating when they finally nail it. At the end of the day we have a chicken and egg situation. I couldn’t train and teach as hard as I do without spirited, fun and energetic clients and they couldn’t be all of those things without my energy and drive. We are not exceptional instructors without exceptional students so a huge thank you to everyone that makes our job an absolute joy. And those that make it slightly harder – it’s ok we love you too because you are so surprised when you smash through your goals and reach those targets that sometimes it makes us tear up (not me of course but I have seen it in others!).
The best of luck to all of the finalists at the Gainsborough Business Awards and to our two tables full of crazy individuals – let’s have an epic night and celebrate what we have achieved in the last two months because by God we have worked damn hard for it!
